Why You Or Your Loved One Need Foot Care Services

From regular maintenance to living with serious conditions,
there are many reasons why you or your loved one may require foot care:

Living With Diabetes

Managing diabetes can be difficult, especially as we get older. MP Fortin joined Global News Calgary with key areas to focus on.

Those living with diabetes are at increased risk of foot problems and amputation. Therefore, you must maintain your feet daily.

If you show any signs of:

  • Bumps
  • Dry or Shiny skin
  • Unbalanced temperatures
  • Pain when walking, or more

It’s important to seek attention from a foot care specialist rather than attempt to resolve your foot pain on your own.

Experiencing Foot Pain

Naima Care values unique individual needs, and always ensures you or your
loved one receives the absolute best care possible.

Fungal Nails

Toenail fungus usually starts as a white or yellow spot just under the edge of the toenail. As it spreads, it may cause the nail to become discoloured, thicken and develop coarse edges. The toenail fungus can be difficult to treat, persist indefinitely and return after it has been cured. While it is not normally dangerous, it can be painful, cause unsightly nails and lead to foot problems such as ingrown nails for people with conditions that affect blood flow.

Ingrown Toenails

Many people have experienced the pain of an ingrown toenail. It occurs when the corner or side of a toenail grows into the soft flesh of the toe, most often the big toe. Ingrown nails can cause discomfort, swelling, redness and sometimes infection.

Calluses

The skin protects the body from many threats and stresses. In places where the outer layer of skin is exposed to stress, the body adapts by forming a callus-thickened area of skin that protects the exposed location. On the feet, a callus will commonly occur on the toes, the ball of the foot and the heel.

Foot Irregularities

Foot irregularities also create pressure points that contribute to the formation of calluses. For example, hammertoes expose the skin on the top of the toes to pressure and friction, and bunions expose the skin to pressure and rubbing in the protruding area.

Painful Corns

Painful corns often occur on the sides of toes that adjoin other toes, where friction or pressure is present. Corns are smaller than calluses and are often surrounded by inflamed skin. It is important that you don’t allow them to become too large as they can become very painful over time.

Tailored Plans to Meet Your Needs

We will work with you to develop an ongoing schedule of appointments to make sure your feet stay in good health. We will also go over ways to keep your feet healthy in-between appointments by showing you the right footwear to use, as well as proper hygiene techniques.

About Our Advanced Foot Care Treatment Process

Naima Care follows a four-step process to ensure you’re receiving the care that you need and deserve.
01
Assessment With a Foot Care Specialist

Upon meeting, we will conduct a professional assessment of your current foot health. Each time our nurses visit, we will assess your overall foot health and address any concerns from our last visit. We take great care in providing a comfortable experience.

02
Daily Foot Care

Our specialists will wash and thoroughly dry your feet using mild soap and water, including between your toes. Beyond your regular foot maintenance, try and wear clean socks, changing them on a daily basis to reduce the chances of blisters or athlete’s foot. Be sure you always wear clean shoes and avoid going to public areas barefoot.

03
Toenail Care

It’s important to trim your toenails regularly, at least every 6 weeks, using sanitized nail clippers or scissors. At Ohana Care, our technique includes cutting your toenails straight across, not on a curve, and filing down any sharp edges using an emery board.

04
Daily Foot Inspection

During a foot inspection, the tops and bottoms of your feet, as well as the surrounding area, need to be checked. When inspecting your feet, we look for any bumps, cuts, blisters, discoloration, dry patches, ingrown toenails and more out-of-the-ordinary signs to ensure your foot health is positive.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you or your loved one need assistance with foot care, Naima Care is here to help! We can help cut your toenails and other necessary foot care you may need.

There are a variety of techniques that are used when providing the best care for your feet. For example, before cutting toenails, you must soak them. This allows the nail to soften, making it easier to care for and treat.

Our foot care services are provided by professional and caring nurses who have received advanced foot care certifications to ensure your service is professional and safe.
